I fell so incredibly behind on my TBR this summer that this list ended up consisting of a lot of books I meant to read this summer. There are some books on it coming out this fall that I’m really excited for as well. Honestly, chances are that I’m going to only end up reading half of this list and reread series I’ve already read three times, but maybe I’ll actually make a dent in my TBR for once; stranger things have happened.
The Tower of Nero
I’m devastated that Trials of Apollo is the last full series Rick Riordan is planning on doing in the Percy Jackson universe, and I am desperately hoping that he changes his mind about that, because I need a better team-up series than the few cross-over short stories between The Kane Chronicles and Percy and Annabeth. Regardless of the sadness that will come once I’m done with the book, I’m still excited. Riordan finales are always epic, and even though this has been my least favorite of his series, I’m still excited to see how it ends.
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories
An illustrated book from Carden’s perspective? How could I be anything but excited for that? It’s fortunate it’ll come out while I’m on Thanksgiving break, because I will read it as soon as I can possibly get my hands on it.
Unlocked (and Legacy)
I still haven’t actually read Legacy, because I’m scared it will crush my Fitzphie hopes that were raised so high during Flashback. Regardless, I’ll get to it at some point so I can read Unlocked when it comes out. I’m not a Keefe fan, so I’m not excited that part of it is told from his point of view, but I’m always excited to read a new Keeper of the Lost Cities book (even when I procrastinate having done so for almost a year).
We Ride Upon Sticks
I got this for my birthday a few months ago, but I still haven’t read it, even though I really mean to! The first-person plural narrative sounds really interesting, so I’m definitely going to try to get to this book soon!
Majesty
I loved American Royals even though I wasn’t expecting to, so I’m excited for the sequel! I want to see Beatrice deal with the events at the end of the first book, and I’m just very curious about what’s going to happen to all of the main characters. I don’t really care about Samantha’s storyline at all, but everybody else’s are shaping up to be really interesting.
The Lost Book of the White (and The Red Scrolls of Magic)
Yes, I still haven’t read The Red Scrolls of Magic. I don’t know why; Magnus Bane is one of my favorite characters ever, and I don’t dislike Alec as much in more recent books as I did during The Mortal Instruments. I’m definitely going to try and get around to these before long.
My Calamity Jane
This book has been staring at me since I bought it the first week after it came out, and I have yet to read it. I’ll definitely try to get to it soon though, especially since I loved the other two books in the series once I got into them.
Sword in the Stars
This is another sequel that I was really excited for and bought soon after it came out and then just… never got around to reading. I will though! The time travel aspect is going to be so interesting, and I’m intrigued to see where the story’s going to go.
War and Peace
Technically I am currently reading this, but I have the equivalent of several normal-sized books worth of pages left, so I’m letting it join this list. Hopefully I make my way through in the next few months.
The Storyteller’s Daughter
First off, have you seen this cover? It’s gorgeous. I love retellings more than any other type of story, especially fairytale retellings, so I was super excited to hear about this Rumplestiltskin retelling. I also haven’t read much high fantasy recently even though it’s my favorite, so that’s also a plus.
I hope you enjoy all of these books. I haven’t read War and Peace yet.
My post .
Well I can’t speak to the latter two-thirds of the book, but I would definitely recommend War and Peace from what I’ve read of it so far!
Your list of books looks fabulous! I can’t wait to get my hands on How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories. <3 It's obviously going to be fabulous. Funny, I'm just starting the Keeper of the Lost Cities series this week!
Here's my TTT post.
How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories is going to be great! I hope you like Keeper of the Lost Cities; it’s one of my favorite series, and tragically underrated.
I have somehow never heard of We Ride Upon Sticks, but from the cover to the blurb, that’s a very easy addition to my ever-growing TBR pile. I hope you love it, too, and all the rest of these when you’re able to get around to them.
