Today’s Top Ten Tuesday was Top Ten Super Long Book Titles. This was a strange one to write because there’s not much explanation to give, and it’s really just a matter of counting out how long titles are. I made a rule for myself to only use books I’ve already read, so not ones on my TBR, and to not use subtitles (anything after a colon didn’t count). I decided to do my list by syllables rather than by word count, because that seemed like the more dependable measure of the length of a title.
Here’s my list, from least to most syllables!
The Life (and Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly
(8 words, 11 syllables)
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
(6 words, 12 syllables)
The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place
(6 words, 12 syllables)
Technically this is the name of the series, not of any individual book, but it is so much of a mouthful that it had to have a place on this list.
A Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy
(7 words, 12 syllables)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
(8 words, 12 syllables)
Simon v.s. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
(6 words, 13 syllables)
The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender
(8 words, 14 syllables)
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
(9 words, 18 syllables)
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma
(8 words, 20 syllables)
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
(12 words, 20 syllables)
I always just call that one Miss Peregrine’s. It’s too much of a mouthful. I can see why it made your list today!
That’s probably the best way to go about referring to it, let’s be honest. It was the first book title I came up with for the list before deciding to just hunt through my Goodreads shelves to compile it.
The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place looks like an interesting read!
My post.
It really is! I fell in love with it about 10 years ago and never stopped, so I definitely recommend it.
I didn’t even think about counting syllables, but you’re right, that’s really the best way to measure. I’ve read a few of these books, too. Great picks!
Happy TTT!

I was initially going to go based on word count, but then I realized that my main issue with long titles usually comes from what a mouthful they are, so I thought syllables was the best way to measure it.
The lady’s guide to petticoats and piracy is such an awesome title! I am going to have a look at it right now.
Great list! Here’s mine: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Book Titles
It’s a great book! It’s actually a companion novel to A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, but I think you can read it without having read A Gentleman’s Guide. I definitely recommend it.
